Another grumble about gas prices

"Exxon Mobil, the world's largest oil company, said yesterday that its third-quarter net income jumped 75 percent, to $9.92 billion. Its profit in the first nine months of this year - $25.42 billion - already equals its full-year earnings for 2004. This year's sales, which topped $100 billion in the last quarter, are expected to exceed those of Wal-Mart.

Tell me again why our gas prices are so high? I'm all for companies working hard, providing valuable services, and taking care of the customer - all while making money. But to just take all of that money as profit, rather than have major investment of that money back into operations, reserves, or process improvement really makes me ill. You can find the full article here.

Of course, well-timed as always, an announcement of November's gas increase for us.

Oh yeah tell me again why you aren't building new refineries. Blame it on the boogie man of "environmentalists."
Another one I can't figure out is the rising cost of Natural Gas. Don't know your situation with it in Middle Europe, but here in the states we have been told to prepare for up to doulbe teh bills from last year. I have a friend that is basically a receptionist at a natural gas and oil well drilliing and management company in Western Pennsylvania. Two years ago or so all the employees got somewhere in the neighborhood of $30K to $50K in bonuses for like 2 years in a row. For her it was double her salary for 2 years in a row. There could have been more after that; I never asked. But you see this kind of data, and you ask yourself, how does this work?

Funny when NPR reported that gas prices were going down in the states I asked the AAFES lady when is it going down so I can buy more coupons?

This wasn't her fault as she always tells us when it goes up but it sucks. It's $3.00 a gallon for premium! I feel sorry for my parents who live in CA. I know it's got to be way over $3.00 there!
