Here in Germany
I can't believe that so much has happened since the last time we posted. I clearly remember the Boy typing that last post, while laying in the middle of what used to be our old bedroom... laying, because all we had in that room were our 2 suitcases, his duffel bag, his garment bag of uniforms, and my laptop.
We've been in Germany for a full week now, and these are some of the things we've learned:
*tv is weird. We get many of the same shows as we did back home, but often they are not the right season. For instance, we watched Everwood last night - an episode from 2003.
*to continue with the "tv is weird" comment, we no longer have commercials. Instead, we have "informercials" of a sort, that teach state capitals, or warn about the dangers of gambling and snuff. I also learned that houseflies are not able to live in Alaska.
*it's cold. I mean, COLD. Colder than any place I've ever been before. Today is the first day since we arrived that (a) it's not snowing and (b) the sun is actually shining.
*you really appreciate the sense of independence that being able to drive brings you. Of course, our appreciation right now is because we don't have our car!
We move into housing next Monday, and I am looking forward to settling back down into a routine. Mostly, I think, I'm looking forward to sleeping in my very own bed, with my very own sheets, and cooking with my very own pots... we've been out of sorts since 10 Jan when they first started packing us.

A few years ago my friend Talib was visiting his cousins in London. At that time Ab Fab was really big in the US but totally passe in England. They made fun of him for that. So one night they were watching Roseanne, the previous season, and he totally ruined it for them. He was like, please, they haven't even won the lottery yet.
And, just wait until you see the commercials that are on late at night. Not nearly as pornographic as those in Sweden, so I hear. And make sure you watch German MTv. That was Randy's and my favorite channel when we were travelling in Germany and Czech Republic. They actually play videos.
Mt boyfriend lives off-post and doesn't get AFN, but when we went down to Garmisch and stayed at the Edelweiss I experienced THOSE commercials...it kind of freaked me out how they have anti-domestic abuse commercials. Or was it rape? Can't remember, but it really gave me the chills.
We've been here for three years now, and it was great to read a newbies view on the TV. It's funny, it was really weird for me at first and now I don't think about it. It will get to the point where you know all of the answers to the State trivia questions etc... I especially love the commercials about the patents, did you see the one about the coffin with the above ground bell to ring incase you really weren't dead? Love it! Have fun and enjoy your time here.
