Just reminiscing
The Boy & I are rapidly closing in on our two year mark over here in Germany. It is still so strange to me to think about how much my life has changed in such a short time. To give a little perspective, this time three years ago, I had yet to meet my husband.
To be honest, I'm really hoping we get to leave in another year. With the way things are going, who knows. All these "things" such as deployment, stop loss, etc. etc. etc. may keep us here a while longer.
America is really feeling so far away to me right now. I'm ready to go to Wal-Mart at 3am again, to see my mom & dad, to hold my niece. I really hope that once we do get back to the Promised Land that I won't take those things for granted again.
Oh, and by the way? All you people who are new to Germany... quit telling me how WONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNderful it is to live here. Don't tell me how to go pottery shopping in Poland, or crystal shopping at the factory, or anything else. And seriously? Quit saying GOO-TIN MOR-GIN to me. I may have to hurt you.

Hi Girl! I miss you even though I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked with you before we left. As I think you know, I LOVED being there, but I also understand that not everybody loves it. I hope your last year goes quickly and that you all don't get extended for any reason! Hope to see you guys again. Take care and tell The Boy hello for us!
Wow. At least I have Starbucks to help me feel less.....isolated. Eleven of them and counting in Shenzhen
oh I hated that too I loved Germany for all of about 3 months.
I met my husband there. Gave birth there.
But froze my arse off over there, had to dress like everyone else, mind you I was there from 95-98
But I hated it to and wanted to poke the eyes out of those who were like oh i love it here the castles, the crystal...yeah yeah seen one castle seen them all...
but it was kewl to get married in Denmark. If you havent been there, dont know if you can get there now. But we were able to take advantage of the tours to Egypt and Africa while we were there.
I hated the heating system, we had to live off post in a german apt complex. WTF with no heat after midnight, then our landlord spoke ONLY german, thank gawd the oldest spawn went to german kindergarten, he could understand them, but speakin it was a WHOLE other story...
my best friend is a Commander there now, has been there almost 5 years. I dont know how he does it.
I haven't read your site before but had a hearty LOL at the GOOTIN MORGAN.
I also lived in Germany for 3 years and did the Poland trip (thank God they sold wine at the Esso) and.... Always felt a little lame for not loving it like *everyone* else....
