Annoyances

I've always been a very easy-going, laid back type of person. I am pretty sure that those of you who know me in real life would tend to agree. However, here on our new post, I am faced with several of the things that just tend to irritate the heck out of me. For starters, we have the absolute worst customer service around here that I have ever witnessed. No, not from the Germans - we have some excellent experiences from our host country that we will share soon - but from the Americans that live and work here! For example, we've stood in line at a "restaurant" (in quotations because at home it would be considered fast food) for 45 minutes waiting to place our order. Yes, stood in line just to place our order, only to be forced to wait again because the girl who puts the toppings on the sandwiches is too busy chatting with her boyfriend and making weekend plans. You may as well forget about it at lunch time. I honestly don't know how anyone manages to take only 1 hr for lunch if they go out to eat.

Another annoyance is screaming children at church. I'm not talking about crying, and then taking a bottle and being fine... I'm talking about literal screaming, with the parents not doing a single thing about it. The Boy & I do not have children... I can already feel the "how dare she say something like that" response coming; however, when a child is causing such disruption in church that you can no longer hear the priest speaking, it is a problem.

I wonder, honestly, if the frequent exposure to things such as these will make me more patient and understanding, or just more irritated at the world :)

I think you were spoiled by St. James having a Cry Room. Most people with the less-disciplined children hide in there.
If and when you guys do have kids, let me tell you the church question is a really difficult one. You find yourself developing a "policy" just going on hunches. I am a firm beleiver in taking him every week and remaining in the pews for as much as possible. I do exit if he is crying, which usually happens during homilies (who can blame him) or the Anaphora. I don't do cry rooms. Since they are sound proof, people just let their kids run all over the place.

I totally agree...it's insane how people just are oblivious to their children misbehaving. And if you show any distaste towards it, you are branded as being intolerant towards children...lol. Oh, well...

Oh...and the wait at Taco Bell to place your order at my bf's post is like 15 minutes...then you have to wait 10 minutes for your stuff...I really don't understand it.

Customer service is a dying art. I am unsure who to blame. It could be the fatty. lazy, depressed person behind the counter? Could it be the Americans who want everything NOW!! Some people even take medicine so we can be HAPPY NOW, SKINNY NOW, ERECTION NOW, LESS ANXIOUS NOW.
We attend church, and I do remove my 18 month old and my 2 year old when they get antsy. We discuss Jesus daily at home. I do not expect them to sit still during a sermon that some adults aren't even paying attention to. Being kind to other children in the church nursery is probably a better lesson at this age than a sermon.
