Happy Election Day!

I giggled and grinned this morning as I announced this to my boy, as we were trying to start our day. He filled out his absentee ballot a few weeks ago, and I went to a different polling area for the first time since I turned 18. Evidently, moving 2 blocks down the road suddenly thrust me into the "central" precinct. After presenting the election official with not only my driver's license, but also the postcard (mailed to me by the County Clerk's office) with the address of where I was to vote, he informed me that I should go to my old precinct, because my name wasn't on the list there. Uh huh. Ok sure. I got my postcard last December telling me where to vote. After noting that he spelled my last name incorrectly (all the while he was looking at my driver's license... go figure...), I found my name on the page, and proudly signed my name. My maiden name, mind you, but my name nonetheless.

There were about 35 people in line, consistently, from 8am until I walked out around 8:35am. The gentleman handing out the stickers told me that it had been like that since 6am. Evidently, where my parents vote, there were around 20 people waiting for the polls to open at that hour. Me? I was wishing my husband a "Happy Election Day" at that time.

Who knows. Tomorrow, America may have elected a new Commander in Chief for him. Time will tell, but let's hope not.
